Sad day for the UN

After the killing of UN staff in Afghanistan, this has been a tragic week.

Very sad indeed. My heart goes to those who lost their loved ones in this tragedy.

The son of my wife's best friend was among the victims. He was like a second son for us and a "brother" for my children. He had just been hired by MONUSCO electoral division. His boss, who will accompany the body in Belgium, said about him : "If we would have got dozens like him, MONUSCO could be different"

I posted my earlier comment without knowing, yet a close friend and a brother to me (Alain Lubamba) was among the victims. His body was exposed last night at the Stade des Martyres where a vigil was held in his memory. Alain was a very trusted and respected person.

Alain was a man of integrity, the older son of a civil servant; he was also father of a young family after he married his childhood sweetheart who also went to UNIKIN. Alain grew up in the Bandalungwa (Bandal Sinkin) area of Kinshasa. His death and that of many who were genuinely contributing to redress that country is a massive loss for both the family and the country.

No word can describe my sadness at this moment.
